Literature and Medicine
This website is managed by the Literature and Medicine Foundation. The foundation aims to deepen the conversation between people who provide care and those who need care (and their loved ones), so that they can understand each other even better. We provide words and images that can facilitate this understanding. To this end, the foundation draws on literature and other art forms. Writers and other artists often find effective language to describe illness and care. Moreover, they are keen observers of medical practice. In novels, poetry, personal stories, and films, they also place care experiences in a broader cultural and geographical context. Through their work, we also learn a great deal about the history of healthcare. This, in turn, helps us to understand today’s care experiences. This website details the foundation’s activities.
